A GIRAFFE sketch by Hodgson student Eleanor Bannister proved head and shoulders above other entries for a prestigious Fylde art competition. Eleanor was selected the overall winner of the Young Artist of the Year competition at Blackpool and the Fylde College. Her fine art sketch was pitted against around 120 pieces of work from 15 schools across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.
Year 11 student Jack McGarry was also a runner up with a painting of a bee and Honor Jackson, also Year 11, was highly commended for a colourful reptile painting. All three had their work exhibited in the college’s gallery at the University Centre in May. Rachel Tarlan, the college’s Graphic Designer and Events Co-ordinator, said the standard and variety of work submitted to this year’s competition was “exceptional”.
