THE Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Gangsta Granny. The David Beckham Academy. A diverse mix of books was enjoyed by students during Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day. As part of Hodgson’s Reading School initiative, all students and teachers read for the first 10 minutes of every lesson on Wednesday 11th February.
Students could also bring in magazines, newspapers and e-books. The event is part of an on-going drive to help encourage students to develop a life-long love of reading.
Mrs Tingey, Lead Practitioner of Teaching and Learning, who organised the day said: “It has been an absolute delight and joy to see students right across the academy have an opportunity to read for pleasure in the 50 minutes dedicated purely for reading in our first ever DEAR Day. I hope this is the first of many to come.”
