GOOD team work propelled these Hodgson students into the final of the Young Engineers Competition 2015. Robert Lambert, Antonio Marmo, Sam Eaves and Jacques Bonsell – all Year 10 students – were pitted against teams from 16 Fylde Coast high schools for the engineering challenge at Blackpool and the Fylde College in February.
They designed and made a self-propelled cable car, using set equipment, within a time limit.
Science teacher Mrs Garside said: “The challenge set for the Young Engineers Competition was exceptionally hard compared to previous years.
“The team worked remarkably well together and they were great under pressure. When things didn’t go to plan, they pulled together and made adjustments.”
Hodgson’s cable car travelled one of the furthest distances in the competition and the team was one of 10 to qualify for the final on 11th March.
• A SCIENCE road show was run for Year 9 and 10 students by Lancaster University’s physics department in February.
