THIS clever quartet proved on target in a competition to find the Fylde’s best young engineers.
Year 10 students Dominic Best, Billy Rooke, Hannah Parkinson and Hannah Bartholomew represented Hodgson Academy in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) competition at Blackpool and The Fylde College’s showpiece Advanced Technology Centre, in Bispham, on Friday 5th February.
The team was tasked with designing and building a trebuchet, after being provided with only a metal arm, cardboard and elastic bands. They then had to work together to carefully modify the device to get the desired speed and angle to launch a ball at a target.
Following a day of competition, they came 3rd out of 18 Fylde secondary schools, so are progressing to the final on 26th February, where there is a £10,000 first place prize.
