Thank You for the Music

Further impressive achievements in the creative arts sector come from our Music department. Mr. Mitchell, Head of Music and Performing Arts, and Music Teacher Mr. Ajiteru have supported our students to achieve musical success through competitions this year.

Tom Healey (8R), Tippi Blackwell (8C) and Dan Thomson (8H) were rewarded for their tracks of the month by Charanga- a music education teaching and learning platform. Dan, Tippi and Tom were working hard on their Hip-Hop tracks using an online software called VIP Studio Sessions. They created their tracks, wrote their own lyrics, then recorded the lyrics into their song before editing the entire track. They haven’t worked with this software before, but gained the experience during March’s lockdown. All students have been awarded a £20 high street voucher prize - congratulations!

Two of our Year 11 students found success in the Fleetwood Music and Arts Festival, which was held online for the first time in its 70-year history...

Danielle Huggard (11D) reached the top spot for her acoustic guitar and vocal performance of ‘Ironic’ by Alanis Morissette. Her music teacher, Mr. Ajiteru, says of her: “Danielle is very talented and hard-working, and she is working on her own songs which she writes and records.”

Mark Fa (11S) also reached the top prize, this time as a guitarist and member of a Fleetwood Academy of Modern Music band called ‘Fleetwood Maxx’. They won with their version of ‘Rumour Has It’ by Adele.

“The band rehearses on a weekly basis and works really hard to cover a variety of styles and polish their skills” said Mr. Ajiteru. A huge congratulations to you all!
